Morning Part - Development and Trends In the Energy Sectors in Slovakia

Section I - Real Impact of the Winter Package on the Energy Sector

  • 10:05 – 11:30 – Panel discussion
  • Hosted by: JUDr. Rastislav Hanulak, Partner, Capitol Legal Group
  • Introductory presentation: JUDr. Rastislav Hanulák, Partner, Capitol Legal Group

The European Commission's Winter package brings major changes to the electricity market by changing autonomy of electricity transmission system operations. It also brings new challenges to the development of renewable energy and smart technologies. For some it already means new "green religion", for others it represents inevitable trend, for another it is a pure business opportunity. It is necessary to introduce and lead a public debate in Slovakia as it is obvious that the Winter package will not only mean the massive burst of so called alternative energy but also it will challenge development and sustainability of the existing infrastructure. And it won´t be for free.

Panellists:

  • RNDr. Karol Galek, MSc., member of the National council of the Slovak republic, member of the Economic Affairs Committee
  • Ing. Martina Olejníková, representative of Slovakia at European Federation of Intelligent Energy Efficiency Services

Energy sectors have been changing in the past years. With than change there must change current players on the market including distribution system operators. What kind of services except energy distribution and energy delivery the current market players provide and will provide on the B2B, B2C a B2G markets?

  • Hosted by: Jan Žižka, Senior Consultant - Energy Specialist, HATcom (tbc)
  • Introductory presentation: Petr Závodský, Director Nuclear Power Plants Construction, ČEZ

The Central European region is one of the few regions in Europe, where the fame of nuclear power is not declining. Slovakia is finalising the construction works on two reactors in Mochovce and Hungary is ready to start the construction of another block in the Paks power plant. It is likely that in the Czech Republic will be made decision on the construction of one or two new reactors at the existing nuclear power plants in Dukovany and Temelín. What is the future of the nuclear power in the energy mix of the Central European countries and does still the construction of new modern nuclear blocks make sense?

Panellists:

  • Zalan Bacs, Deputy Managing Director of Rosatom Central Europe and Director of Rosatom Central Europe Hungarian Branch
  • Vítězslav Jonáš, Chairman, Energy Třebíč Region Association
  • Petr Závodský, Director Nuclear Power Plants Construction, ČEZ

ection IV.- How Can Nuclear Power be supplemented by Renewable Energy?

  • 16:30 – 18:00 – Panel discussion
  • Hosted by: Ing. Pavel Šimon, CSc., vice-president of Chamber of users and producers of renewable energy / University of Žilina
  • Introductory presentation: Ing. Pavel Šimon, CSc., vice-president of Chamber of users and producers of renewable energy / University of Žilina

Slovakia has one of the highest shares of nuclear power in its electricity mix of European countries. It moves the Slovakian energy mix to the position of low-carbon country. However, the rest of the production is largely based on fossil fuels - especially the lignite from Nováky mines. What is the technical and real potential of the full replacement of fossil fuels by renewable energy sources? We will look at this question with our and foreign experts on energy renewable resources.

Panellists:

  • Mgr. Jan Fousek, CEO of Association for Energy Accumulation AKU-BAT and member of board of Union of Modern Energy Sector
  • René Grebeň, Director, Energie pro život
  • Ing. Juraj Novák, Energy Section, Ministry of Economy (tbfc)
  • Dr. Ing. Kvetoslava Šoltésová, CSc., Director, Department of Legislation, Methodology and Education, Slovak Inovation and Energy Agency (tbfc)
